Cruise takeaway – Onboard the MS Amsterdam from Melbourne to Sydney

Sydney, 20.01.2012 (Khaleej Times): With the advent of summer, cruise liners begin port calls on Australian shores. So instead of a 90-minute flight or 10-hour drive, I embark on my maiden cruise on Holland America’s MS Amsterdam from Melbourne to Sydney. Overzealous customs officials greet me at the Melbourne Port before I am ushered on board by cheerful crew.

The classic interior, broad staircases and polished decks display Dutch heritage and tradition. At the epicentre is the Planeto Astrolabium, a signature sculpture soaring in a three-story atrium, which tracks constellations, the planets, world time and ship time.

Punjab National Bank opens office in Sydney

Sydney, 17.09.2011 (IANS): Punjab National Bank (PNB), the second largest government-owned bank in India, opened a representative office in the heart of the central business district here on Thursday, becoming the fourth Indian bank to establish a presence in Australia.

“We are hoping to get regulatory approval from authorities in both countries to upgrade this representative office into a full-fledged branch within a year,” said chairman and managing director K R Kamath.

Melting pot of cultures

Sydney, 20.11.2010 (The Hindu): In a country where sushi, laksa, and pizza are a gourmet’s everyday delight, Indian cuisine is attracting a growing fan base with more Australians traveling to India and Indians migrating DownUnder.  

The just released India Cookbook published by Phaidon Press comes at a juncture when Australians, eager to experiment with spices and ingredients, are seeking easy to cook recipes.

The book, designed in Sydney and printed in Italy, is a collection of a 1000 recipes written by Indian author and recipe columnist, Pushpesh Pant, and is interspersed with images of dishes photographed in London.
